How I took these 3 photos

In this mini blog, I will talk about my thought process as to how I took these 3 photos from my last roll of film, from the techniques involved to the preconceived image I had in my head from before I even took the shot. I hope you enjoy!

Flying to Cyprus from Athens - Kodak Gold 200

My inspiration for this shot came from William Eggleston’s “Glass on Plane” photo. Although this is a view from outside the window of the plane, I still had that photo in mind when taking this shot. At the time of the shot, the plane was banking to the right, I was in awe of the islands that surround the mainland of the Attica area, the clarity of the water was unparalleled. In my mind at the time of shooting this, I wanted to show the pureness of Greece’s waters. Something like a poster photo for the airline company to use for their social media promotion.

I took the shot using a shutter speed of 1/250, F either 8 or 9, using Kodak Gold 200. I wanted as much in focus as possible so using F 8 and above is paramount to have almost the entire scene in focus.

Using the islands below as a foreground was also key in trying to complete/balance out the image was important since there is quite a bit of negative space within the environment. Overall, I am very pleased with this photo and consider it to be one of my best film shots so far. Definitely something I would add as a lockscreen wallpaper :D

This final image focuses solely on silhouettes. What stood out to me was the harshness of the sun along with the red/orange hues. I usually take photos like these in Black and White but this photo stands out I think because of the color.

I was surprised by the mini sunstar that is present between the man’s feet as a result of the high F stop. I used a shutter speed of 1/500, F11, and again Kodak Gold 200.

Overall, I am quite proud of this photo as I have been trying to achieve something like this for quite some time now. Overall, 7.6/10, still needs improvement.

Hopefully, this taught you something, I will write more of these with the aim of showing you how I think when taking photos. Till next time!

A view of the Parthenon

This was a much simpler photo to execute. The main idea in my head was to make it seem that the Parthenon was “sitting” on the flowers and to also provide a foreground and add a subtle bit of "framing” to the photo.

I took this shot using a shutter speed of 1/125, F 7 or 8, and was using Kodak Gold 200. I enhanced the colors a bit to add a bit more of a purple hue to the lower part of the image just to give it a bit of a surreal look. One thing I am a bit picky with regarding this shot is the focus. I should’ve tried to focus better and maybe stopped down even more, like F 11 to get the entire environment in focus. But, Overall, is good.
